A few months ago we briefly mentioned our time away on a desert island. Like really, a desert island as you would imagine in Robinson Crusoe or in the Voyage of the Beagle, by Charles Darwin. Actually, Charles Darwin does talk about these archipelagoes in his book. 🙂
Ever since Google maps first appeared, and we explored the world through the internet, my eyes (Lloyd) always became fixated with the islands of Cape Verde. To me, It was so far away, a different world if you will. A place which was so remote and so isolated that it seemed so mystical. Thankfully, Yahaya and I decided it was time to take that adventurous plunge into the unknown. Well, not really unknown, but definitely – a plunge!
After a seven hour flight we landed and began our adventure. It really is literally a desert island paradise, with hardly any; mountains, Minimal vegetation, And glaringly hot sunlight that we need new sunglasses for – oh yes and turtles galore! Interesting fact, it is the third most important breeding ground in the world for turtles which makes spotting them an easy delight.
We spent a whole eight days in Cape Verde and enjoyed every moment of it. As you can see from our pictures will made some new friends, predominantly the canine kind 🙂 We mainly spent days exploring the surroundings and one of the local towns. Well, actually the only town on the whole island – did we say this is a desert island!
Cape Verde itself is made up of an array of islands both large and small and interestingly they keep one island just for wildlife to preserve its natural beauty and ecosystem. How cool is that! Anyway take a little look at our snaps! Hopefully we will get to go back soon and enjoy some more of the town, Culture and see so many more turtles which were adorable!
