Last night, We had the amazing opportunity to go to an event that Thomas Cook hosted in the heart of London Town… and just before you get those nostalgic notions of fish and chips, jellied eels and an umbrella, the event was much more fun with the 5 different senses of Turkey…
… Okay, I still packed the umbrella (as it was a little cloudy in London) – but lets just imagine it as a different, more sun-protecting umbrella, which would be suitable in Turkey! 🙂 Who said you couldn’t explore the 5 Senses of Turkey and take in the breathtaking beauty and turquoise colours of the Turkish Riviera in London Town?!?
The event was brimming-full with a party atmosphere, the traditional, live Turkish Music, fragrances, food and the outfits to wear… ohhhh, did I mention the food (again) WOW! All I can say is that I wanted to nab a whole tray of those delicious çiğ köfte! I don’t think anyone noticed, but I managed to eat three! Shhhhhhh!
Okay, so the delicious food has driven me off-topic… The 5 Senses of Turkey was a smashing event where we were able to experience the uber best, mind-boggling array of sensory overloads!
We had some of the most amazing, traditional clothing and exotic accessories to try on! I can’t resist a good dress-up, so I’m sure I ended up spending way too long seeing how my outfits looked! I felt like a ballin’ superstar with my red fes! I even got a good few pics to share with you!
I must have been a sight for sore eyes! Literally! 🙂
Oh, the delicious fragrant scents of Turkey!!! What can I say… they were beautiful… Ohhhh, actually I managed to learn so much about frankincense – which I had no idea was aromatic resin that is collected from Trees… with some of the most precious coming from Turkey! Of-course, Where else!
… as you can imagine I had a good sprinkle of fragrance all over me – to the point where I actually could still smell the frankincense when I was sleeping … It must be a sign to head to Turkey, right? 🙂
We had the most amazing band that made every song feel like it was played just for me! These two amazingly talented guys brought every folk song to life – the recital with the Bag-lama and the Tar gave me goosebumps!
Arghhhhhhh… No more mentioning of the food – its even making me hungry typing this! Seriously though…. WOW! I don’t think I have ever tasted food so good and healthy! I actually think I want to live in Turkey just for the food -I’m telling you… my Fish and Chips are a big love of mine… but seriously, I need more of that Turkish Cuisine! I definitely enjoyed the food and I really think it gave me such a strong sense of the culture and heritage of this amazing land!
ohhhhhh, we also tried some bespoke cocktails; the Antalyan Dream – a Turkish delight martini… dusted with a serious bit of coco was definitely my favourite tipple!
Finally we got to use the last of our senses (unless your some super sophisticated intergalactic person).
Throughout the venue we were invited to make our own natural and locally sourced body scrubs, using traditional Turkish methods right at our very own “Touch Station”… We added some Jojoba oil, sugars and rose-water to make the most stunning body moisturiser and scrub! As you can imagine, we excited created our own batch and lathered it onto our elbows….My elbows will never be the same again!
My Dream Destination in Turkey
Throughout the event, we learned so much about Turkey and all the awesome places that are within easy reach with direct flights with Thomas Cook… I have to say, my dream destination would be Dalaman – I think it might steal my heart!
Dalaman seems to encompass a magic at night when the truly awesome and historic 15th century Bodrum Castle spans across the midnight sky. The city was even home to one of the 7 wonders of the Ancient World (I had no clue): the Mausoleum of Mausolus and you can take a breathtaking exploration of the ruins as well.. oh and they have some pretty awesome food! 🙂
